Review Friday: Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Blurb:
"Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing."

Review:
Oh no.  Oh no no no no no.  Really?  This was one of my favorite series' and Ms. Armentrout is one of my favorite authors.  I can't believe I'm giving one of her books 3 stars like it's simply mediocre.  But alas.

This is the last book in the Lux series starring Katy and Daemon the starcrossed lovers who happen to be human and alien respectively.  Typical forbidden love.  Took a bit to get used to it and not cry 'cliche' but I did it.  But this conclusion.  Ms. Armentrout went a little heavy on the romance here and the fighting and badassery fell to the wayside.

So yeah, Katy and Daemon were going at it like rabbits.  Every.  Spare.  Minute.  Their relationship lost all substance for me because they never really had many conversations of substance.  It was all 'oh he looks so good when he blasts the aliens to death' and 'her hair is so soft on my face'.  Bleh.  I mean, I'm not against romance but it has to be in moderation.  This was a bit much even for me.

Next up, Katy.  I used to love her in the preceding books.  She's a book blogger!  What more has to be said?  Apparently lots more.  There were several points in the book when I couldn't but scream at her in my head.  She lost all her smarts and it really will be missed.

The other characters were good.  They weren't fabulous but they weren't terrible either.  There were plenty of one-liners nestled in the book that made me laugh.

I don't mean to sound negative.  There were some good things in this book.  The plot was decent with the whole 'Luxen taking over the world' bit.  Ms. Armentrout did capitalize on that.  As I said before, it was pretty funny per the usual (that's one of the best things about reading her books).  So you know.

The Final Verdict:
This conclusion really fell flat for me and I won't be rereading the series simply because I'd have to reread the ending book.  The epilogue was good as was the humor, plot, and most of the characters.  Katy and Daemon lost their sparkle for me and the endless romance got on my nerves.
3 stars

Quotes:
“Kat.” He uttered my name like it was some kind of prayer, and then he pressed a kiss against the skin behind my ear. “I broke every rule of my kind to heal you and keep you with me. I … burned down an entire city to keep you safe. I’ve killed for you. Did you think I’d forget what you mean to me? That anything in this world— in any world— would be stronger than my love for you?”

“It’s not like I’m going to run up and hug him.”
His expression turned bland. “I’d sure hope not. I might get jealous.”
“You’d get jealous if she hugged a tree,” Archer tossed out.
“Maybe.” Daemon coasted to a stop in a parking space behind the car. “I’m needy like that.”

“We could really use the Avengers right about now."
"Screw that. We need Loki," Daemon retorted.
General Eaton arched a brow. "Well, unfortunately, the Marvel Universe isn't real, so...”

“I forced myself to stop thinking about Daemon, about anything I didn’t want to share with Archer, which was pretty much everything right now. So I thought about belly dancing foxes wearing grass skirts. Archer snorted. “You’re weird.”

“What the hell, man?” Dawson exploded, hands flying up. “I was on level sixty-nine of Candy Crush, you bastard. Do you know how hard that—?”

“You just don’t want to admit that you’re in the beginning stages of a bromance to end all bromances.”
I snorted. “Whatever.”

“Jesus. It’s like I’m a muggle to your pure-blood or something.”

“I'm game for anything with you, Daemon Black.”
